Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will my child be separated from the rest of the students at Talley if he/she joins the IB Program?
No! Core academic classes are comprised of only IB students. However, all students have elective classes, extracurricular activities, and lunch together.

Can my child participate in Immersion, AVID, Band and/or Chorus in the IB Program?
Yes. Many IB students do participate in these activities, although it is not a requirement for the IB Program.

Is transportation provided?
For students outside of the Talley feeder pattern, bus service can be provided from the Talley bus stop closest to their home.

Does my child fit the criteria for IB at Talley?
IB students show initiative. They are intrinsically motivated and work independently to accomplish their goals. IBMYP students are prepared for an accelerated academic curriculum and embody the traits found in the IB Learner Profile.

Will my child receive a large amount of homework to complete each night?
We do not believe that an advanced and accelerated curriculum should mean more work. To be well-rounded, we also believe that IB students need protected time after school to be involved in extracurricular activities. There is not more classwork or homework, but assignments are more in depth and rigorous.

Do IB teachers have special training?
All Talley IB teachers are trained by the IB World Organization in the specific philosophy of the International Baccalaureate. Teachers complete rigorous course work to receive certificates in their content area.

Can my child shadow at Talley?
Yes! We do offer shadow opportunities to IB applicants. Shadowing is arranged electronically. Potential students can choose to shadow for an entire school day or a half day.

Can my child join the program if he/she requires special accommodations?
Absolutely! We will work together to ensure that your child has whatever accommodations are necessary to ensure academic equity in the classroom.

What educational opportunities are available to my child upon completion of Talley's IB Program?
The IB program prepares students to take college-level classes at any high school. Students can choose to continue with the IB Program at Mount Pleasant High School or enroll in Advanced Placement classes at Brandywine or Concord High School.
